Forr\u00f3 is the most popular genre of music and dance in Brazil&#8217;s North-East region. His free approach to music-making has served him well in the critically acclaimed debut album&nbsp;<em>Gozo<\/em>, described as a remarkably original and named one of the best albums of the year by local music critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Betty Santos and Friends<br><\/strong><em>Saturday, July 7 at 5 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Betty Santos and Friends perform typical Brazilian \u201chang out\u201d music. The show draws on local popular culture of various forms, including its linguistic, musical and visual&nbsp;expressions. *Canadian premiere<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maria Bonita and The Band<br><\/strong><em>Saturday, July 7<\/em>&nbsp;at 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originating from Brazil\u2019s arid northeast, forr\u00f3 (pronounced \u201cfoh-ho\u201d) is a regional dance and music rooted in African and European traditions. With its soulful mix of accordion, fiddle, guitar, flute and percussion, forr\u00f3 has swept across Brazil&#8217;s cultural landscape and inspired a new generation of musicians. Wanting to share this magnetic experience with her Toronto community, Jerusa Le\u00e3o presents Maria Bonita &amp; The Band \u2013 a collaboration of artists from diverse musical backgrounds playing a roots style of forr\u00f3&nbsp;called pe de serra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aline Morales<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday, July 7 at 9:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since her arrival in Canada in 2003, Brazilian-born artist Aline Morales has been well known locally as a dynamic singer, percussionist and bandleader. However, it was the release of her debut solo album in 2011,\u00a0<em>Flores, Tambores e Amores<\/em>, that brought national attention to this unique artist, culminating in her Juno nomination for World Music Album of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salviano Pessoa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Sunday, July 8 at 2 p.m.<\/em><br>Salviano Pessoa effortlessly blends traditional Brazilian rhythms such as maracatu, samba and smooth bossa nova with funk and jazz, integrating complex changes of rhythm and harmony. Translated to English as \u201cthe open sea,\u201d their name represents the influences that have travelled from Africa to Brazil and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brazilian Drumming Workshop with Bavia Arts Studio<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Sunday, July 8 at 4 p.m,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bavia Arts Studio leads a fun and exciting workshop where kids are allowed to be loud while directing their energy into learning rhythmic skills and songs from various traditional styles. Participants will learn the parts for several different instruments including hand drums, bass drums, snare drums, shakers and bells. As a Toronto-based Brazilian-born designer, Steinberg\u2019s glamorous and eclectic design aesthetic brings a vibrant energy to her couture collections that were recently presented at LG-Toronto Fashion Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Designer&nbsp;Clarice Michelon was born in the southern Brazilian city, Rio Grande do Sul, and is always looking for the best creative way to put things together for balance, harmony and beauty. Jardim invites viewers into a world of the living and vibrant colours offering an escape from the obvious.<\/li><li>Ondina Grant was born and raised in S\u00e3o Paulo, has a degree in music but has channelled her passion for coloured pencils and drawing into a non-musical form.<\/li><li>Visual artist, painter and sculptor Solange Escosteguy has worked with various media, such as canvases, cotton, silk, wood, iron and papier mach\u00e9. Her \u201cwearable art\u201d, objects, paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in a number of museums and galleries in Brazil and abroad.<\/li><li>Draftsman, engraver and painter, Maciej Babinski devoted himself almost exclusively to drawing and engraving but recently he has taken up painting. The images by Ronaldo Silva highlight the idealism of Juscelino Kubitschek\u2019s socialist government and its team of visionary urban planners, architects and landscape designers including Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Santa Catarina Carnival Photo Exhibit<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Friday, July 6 to Sunday July 8<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photographer and teacher Daniel Babinski has a collection of seven thousand photos of Carnival in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
